They've been called the "First Family Of Rock And Roll" with good reason. Beginning at the young ages of 5 years old, Memphis-born brothers Johnny and Dorsey Burnette taught themselves to express their love of music in a manner that eventually influenced many other music lovers from Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson to The Beatles and other key contributors of "The British Invasion," then The Stray Cats, The Cramps and other contemporary rockers. As the young Burnette brothers rehearsed their now-legendary Rock 'n Roll Trio at home with guitarist Paul Burlison, their first-born toddlers (Rocky & Billy Burnette) would set a bathroom plunger down as a "microphone" stand and wiggle away as if they too were on stage making music. So a song was named "Rock Billy Boogie" which soon also became the name for an exciting new subgenre of a vital new music called Rock And Roll. The Rock 'n Roll Trio never achieved during its lifetime the international success it deserved, but after firmly establishing themselves as among the greatest Rock And Roll songwriters, Johnny achieved Top Ten success as a handsome "teen idol" with Dorsey also hitting the Top Ten then going on to set a mark in Country Music. Both of them having some of the most distinctively expressive voices ever recorded.Their sons soon kept the tradition going strong as Rocky also hit the Top Ten and was soon established internationally as a genuine Rockabilly King, and cousin Billy also rocked in an impressive solo career before being recruited by Mick Fleetwood for his Zoo, Cholos and Fleetwood Mac projects. And as active as their careers have been, there's still Randy Burnette, Johnny's second son, and, getting ready, Billy Jr.Below is a picture of a wall in the log cabin Rocky Burnette built. It only shows the gold record awards for his father's single hit records. It does not include the gold albums, nor the gold records awarded to Dorsey, Rocky or Billy Burnette. But here at Burnette House you'll be able to hear the magic yourself and enjoy yourself to your heart's content. |
